At least 20 families lose homes in 2 separate fires in Misamis Oriental ABS-CBN 1 day CAGAYAN DE ORO - At least 20 families were affected by two separate fire incidents in Cagayan de Oro City and in Balingoan town, Misamis Oriental Sunday. A fire broke out early Sunday morning in 12th Street, Barangay Nazareth in Cagayan De Oro. The two-storey house owned by Jose Opeña was easily engulfed by fire since it was made of light materials. Aside from Opeña's family, five other families were renting the house. According to Jobert Datahan, one of the renters, the fire started in their room at the second floor. He suspected that his two boys who were playing with matches might have caused the fire. He was driving his pedicab while his wife was cooking at the ground floor when the fire happened. Barangays Balingoan is politically subdivided into 9  barangays . Baukbauk ( Poblacion ) Dahilig Kabangasan Kabulakan Kauswagan Lapinig ( Poblacion ) Mantangale Mapua San Alonzo History Formerly part of  Talisayan , it gained independence on March 1, 1952. According to the local legend,it derived its name from the word "baling ni juan" (John's Fishing Net), which later on became simply as "Balingoan".
